The idea for this project came to be when a part of plaster from my wall peeled off, fell to the ground breaking into pieces. As I was discarding the pieces, the story of the Ship of Theseus by Greek historian Plutarch, came to mind. The story examines the final product after its complete, piece by piece, alteration. “Fragments” views the side where the replaced fragments lie. A project where the origins and identity of the fragments are in question. Do they still carry within them the essence of their once original place? Can the fallen plaster still be considered as a part of home? Does rust from a piece of metal still holds parts of its original purpose inside its molecules or is it just dust? Can chipped off paint still be considered part of the colourful encasing of an item? Perhaps these fragments gain a whole new identity.
